12/11 “Things your camera wishes you knew”

On thing that the camera wishes we knew is that the camera feels more secure with the center column of the tripod you are using down. Exposure compensation is the best friend of a pop up flash. The camera would prefer to not have 3 pictures of every picture. The RAW files should never be left naked. The camera has nothing to do with the sharpness so don’t blame the camera for that!!

12/5 how to start a photography business

One helpful thing i learned from reading this article is how to create your photography business plan. When creating a business plan it’s going to help you take your business forward and start planning how the business will be. The main thing that should be included in the plan is a business description of the characteristics your business will have. This is important so your clients will know your business before they hire you.

11/12/18 Masters of photography

Berenice Abbott was born in Springfield, Ohio, in 1898. Abbott went to Public schools in Columbus and Cleveland, and Ohio State University. During school she studied sculpture on her own-with no teacher!- she was always a independent person and wanted to do it on her own. From 1923-1925 she worked with Man Ray and helped him with his work. She established a reputation which made her big in the photography industry. Her pictures consisted mostly people and she took pictures of anybody and everybody. You won’t find much flattery in her artwork. Some of her famous artwork pieces are “Janet Flanner”, “Gun shop” and “Shelter on the Water front”. She was inspired by the first piece of art she saw by Eugene Atget in 1925. She soon later wrote a book called “The world of Atget”. The peak of Abbott’s career was in 1934 when she began to teach photography at the New school for Social Research in New York. Berenice Abbott was a photographer with sensibility. She was very respective, aware, and had common sense. Her pictures were clear art and had no use for purple prose and precious prints. She soon died on December 9th, 1991. She has influenced me because she is a independent person and i truly do look up to that! I find myself to be somewhat of a independent person and i believe that is a great trait to have. I love her style of taking pictures of people i think it really shows all of the different types of cultures and many things we can learn for them.

White balance read and write

From this article i learned is that we use white balance is to get the colors in the image more accurate. Many photographers don’t use white balance and don’t know how to use it. The reason for the photos looking different colors is because of the different sources of light you are using. There are many ways you can brighten or lower the lighting!

White balance settings:

• Auto- Auto is where the camera takes its best guess on a shot by shot basis.

  • Tungsten- This setting for for shooting indoors, especially user lighting. It’s usually cools the colors down in the photo.
  • Fluorescent- This will warm up the colors in your shot.
  • Cloudy- This setting generally warms things up.
  • Flash- The flash can give your photo a cool light.
  • Shade- The light in shade is more of a blue than shooting in direct sunlight.
